Holiday Kiln Opening

November 28, 29, 30 & December 6, 7 & December 13, 14
Twice a year we make & fire 1500+ pots and fill our barn/showroom for a Kiln Opening, i.e. two to three weekends when the pottery studio is open to meet Mark, see his workshop & massive kilns, and to shop from hundreds of wonderful pieces of pottery in our barn/showroom and yard. Mark Hewitt

Pots made at the Mark Hewitt Pottery are made to be used.

They acknowledge the quiet heroism of domesticity, and provide astonishing beauty to brighten your days.

Mark makes his pots with regional clays and glaze materials, and usually fires them in one of two very large wood burning kilns. On rare occasions he fires pots in a large gas kiln. All the pots made at the pottery are identified by maker, kiln, and a chronological time line.

Mark was awarded a United States Artist Fellowship in 2015 for contributions to the creative landscape and arts ecosystems of the county, and was a finalist for the 2015 Balvenie Rare Craft Award for contributions to the maintenance and revival of traditional or rare craft techniques. In 2014 he was awarded a Voulkos Fellowship at the Archie Bray Foundation for the Ceramic Arts in Helena, MT, for his outstanding contributions to the ceramic arts.
